I-program Experiences

I-program 1

Imprint | 01

On February 24th I attended the Imprint I-program. This was an amazing experience. I chose to do this I-program in particular because I am always looking for ways to network and meet as many people as possible. I was always told that it is not what you know but who you know and I am always trying to take advantage of that. At this program I believe that I made connections with professionals that I will obtain. It was an inspirational experience to see that these professionals all came from this University and are doing great things. The professional that was at my table, Annie, taught me a lot. One thing she taught me was how to end a professional conversation without it being awkward, which is something I always felt weird about when networking. Annie also shared so many experiences of her own with us that allowed me to connect with her as well as see how things were different from when she was attending the University. It amazed me to hear how she was an athlete and still managed to be in the College of Business and do so many great things outside of her sport. Also, Another person that made an impact on me is a guy named Ryan who is “intra-prenuer”. The word intra-prenuer is a word that he taught me, which means to work in corporate and to use that money to fund and run your own business. I found this word to be empowering because of the thought and the hard work behind that. The professionals that came out to make an impact on students shows real leadership and dedication to what they do. I will carry on the lessons and the inspiration that I was able to gain from this experience as I continue with my path.

Innovation | 02

In November of 2016 I had the opportunity to attend the innovation workshop. This was my very first I-program so I did not know what to expect. The thoughts that were going through my head was why is this program so long and am I going to know anyone there. Once I got there everyone was smiling and giving me a warm welcome and making it an exciting atmosphere. The first thing we did as a group was play a game. This game was fun and allowed me to meet new people. It did not matter if I knew anyone because I was there to break out of my shell and meet new people.  I loved the concept behind this program. It made me really think about who I was as a leader and to think about what it means to create. I liked how in our writing books for the program we had time to reflect and share. One big thing that I took away from this program is inspiring and sharing with others to create something amazing. An example of this was when everyone had to think of one item and then we partnered up to create something bigger with another person’s idea. An example the director of the program used was the creation of a Reese’s Cup and how they thought to put peanut butter and chocolate together. This program forced me to step out of my comfort zone which was an amazing experience. There was a lot of interactive activities that made me talk more. I really enjoyed the innovation I-program and I would recommend this to others.
